Francesco Russo is a Full Professor of Geometry at the University of Catania since 2016, following his role as Associate Professor from 2008. Prior to this, he served as Associate Professor at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Brazil (1998-2008), including as Director of the Doctoral Research Program. He is affiliated with the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (DMI) at UNICT, where he has held leadership roles such as Quality Manager, President of the Master's Degree in Mathematics, and Research Delegate.
His research focuses on Algebraic Geometry and Algebra, particularly on projective manifolds, Cremona transformations, and Gorenstein algebras. He has contributed to solving the Hartshorne Conjecture on complete intersections and advanced classifications of special varieties. He coordinated multiple PRIN research grants and serves on the editorial board of the Mediterranean Journal of Mathematics and as Editor-in-Chief of the DMI journal Le Matematiche.
