Francesca Musiani is an Associate Research Professor at CNRS since 2014 and Deputy Director of the Center for Internet and Society (founded in 2019). She holds affiliations with the Center for the Sociology of Innovation (i3/MINES Paris) and the Internet Governance Lab at American University. Her research focuses on Internet governance, merging information sciences, STS, and international law, with emphases on encryption, digital resistances, and web governance. Key projects include the H2020 NEXTLEAP (2016–2018), ANR ResisTIC (2018–2021), and web archiving initiatives like Web90 and ASAP. She has authored award-winning books such as Qu’est-ce qu’une archive du Web? (2019) and Nains sans géants (2013), and co-edited influential volumes on infrastructure and distributed architectures.
Francesca’s academic roles include teaching sociology of controversies at the Centre de recherches interdisciplinaires (CRI) and engineering programs in Morocco. She serves as vice-president for research at Internet Society France, co-chairs the IAMCR Communication Policy and Technology section, and contributes editorially to Internet Policy Review and RESET. Her career includes fellowships at Georgetown and Harvard Universities, and she previously advised France’s parliamentary Commission de réflexion sur le droit et les libertés à l’âge du numérique (2014–2015).
