Francesca Lamberti (born 1965) is a Full Professor of Roman Law and Foundations of European Law at the Department of Legal Sciences, University of Salento, where she has served since December 1, 2001. She teaches History and Institutions of Roman Law, Advanced Roman Law, and Citizenship and Migration Phenomena in Antiquity for the 2025/2026 academic year. As Editor-in-chief of the prestigious journal 'Quaderni Lupiensi di Storia e Diritto' (Band A for Area 12 and Area 10/D2) and President of the Lecce Section ('Antonio Garzya') of the International Association of Late Antique Studies, she maintains significant scholarly leadership in her field.
Professor Lamberti earned her academic foundation at the University of Naples 'Federico II' and has been an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow since 1995. Her academic career began as a Researcher at the University of Naples 'Federico II' (1995-1998), followed by an Associate Professor position at the University of Salento (1998-2001), before becoming a Full Professor in December 2001.
Her research focuses on Roman legal history with particular emphasis on family law, citizenship, women's roles, and the evolution of Roman legal institutions. Professor Lamberti has made significant contributions to understanding citizenship development in antiquity and migration phenomena in the Roman world. Her work explores the connections between Roman law and European legal traditions, examining how ancient legal concepts shaped modern European jurisprudence.
Professor Lamberti's publication record shows a consistent trajectory from foundational work on Roman legal texts toward more specialized studies on citizenship, family structure, and legal procedures in the Roman world. The most recent publications demonstrate deepening specialization in Roman family law and the historical development of legal concepts that underpin modern European legal systems.

Throughout her distinguished career, Professor Lamberti has held numerous leadership positions including Deputy Director of the Department of Legal Studies (2004-2008), Director of the Department of Legal Studies (2008-2012), Rector's Delegate for the University Library System (2008-2010), Coordinator of the Board of Department Directors and member of the Academic Senate (2009-2012), President of the Law Degree Course (2016-2019), and Coordinator of the PhD in Private, Public and Common Goods (2021-2023). She currently serves on the teaching staff of the PhD in 'Law and Sustainability' at the University of Salento.
Professor Lamberti regularly undertakes study visits as a visiting professor at German, French, and Spanish universities through Erasmus Staff Mobility for Teaching programs, maintaining strong international academic connections that enrich her research and teaching.
