About
Francesca Coscia serves as a Research Group Leader at Human Technopole, focusing on structural biology and thyroid hormone mechanisms. Her lab investigates macromolecular structures in thyroid homeostasis, autoimmunity, and cancer, utilizing cryo-EM and integrative methods.
- Education: PhD in Structural Biology (2014, IB Structural Biology Grenoble)
- Postdoctoral Training: MRC-LMB (2017-2021), Birkbeck College (2014-2016)
Research interests span thyroid hormone synthesis, autoimmune disease structures, and cancer-related macromolecules, with recent work on thyroglobulin architecture and nanoscale biopsy techniques.
Key publications include human thyroglobulin structure (Nature 2020), thyroid hormone transport mechanisms (Nat Commun 2025), and SOLIST cryo-FIB method (Nat Methods 2024). Awards: ERC Starting Grant (2021), Salvatore Award (2021), Brenner Prize (2020).
Mentored by Jan Löwe (MRC-LMB) and Elena Orlova (Birkbeck), she leads a team of PhD students and postdocs, advancing diagnostic frameworks for thyroid disorders through structural insights.
