Francesca Bottanelli

Francesca Bottanelli is a Junior Professor of Biochemistry at the Institute for Chemistry and Biochemistry, Freie Universität Berlin. Her research focuses on Cell Biology and super-resolution imaging, particularly using STED microscopy to study membrane trafficking and organelle dynamics.

• Education: PhD in Biology (University of Leeds, 2011), MSc in Plant, Food and Environmental Biotechnology (University of Milan, 2006)

Her work explores the molecular mechanisms of intracellular transport, including the role of ARF1 in Golgi dynamics, mitochondrial serine transport in one-carbon metabolism, and lipid modifications in cargo sorting. She has pioneered nanoscale imaging techniques for studying clathrin-mediated endocytosis.

Recent publications highlight her expertise in super-resolution microscopy applications and membrane trafficking pathways. Scientific accolades include the American-Italian Cancer Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship and Leeds University International PhD Scholarship.
