Fragkiskos Kalavasis

Fragkiskos Kalavasis is a Professor at the University of the Aegean, affiliated with the School of Humanities and the Department of Preschool Education Sciences and Educational Design. He has been teaching there since 1989, collaborating as a Visiting Professor with universities like the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Patras, and Université de Versailles-Saint Quentin en Yvelines. His research focuses on Mathematics Education, with an emphasis on Educational Mechanisms, Learning Technology, and Systemic Models of Learning Organizations applied to schools.

Education: He holds a degree in Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematics Education from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Université Paris 7 (now Paris Cité).

Advising & Leadership: He has supervised doctoral theses and directed international research programs. He served as Chair of the Editorial Board of the journal International Journal for Mathematics in Education (JME), and as President of the Preschool Education Sciences department (2002–2006) and the Panhellenic Pedagogical Chairs Council (2004–2006). He founded the Learning Technology and Didactic Mechanics Lab, advancing educational robotics and interactive learning systems.

Contributions: His work includes organizing international conferences, developing curricula for preschool and primary education, and pioneering the use of augmented reality and digital tools like Scratch in teaching mathematics and physics.
