Dr. Fotios Sampaziotis is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the University of Cambridge and an honorary consultant hepatologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He leads a research group at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute within the Department of Medicine, focusing on biliary regeneration through cholangiocyte biology and bioengineering.
- University of Athens (MD)
- Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (PhD)
His research explores cholangiocyte plasticity, single-cell transcriptomics, and organoid transplantation for treating biliary diseases. His lab has pioneered bioengineered bile ducts and identified environmental drivers of duct regeneration.
Key publication trends include: bile duct organoid development, ACE2 regulation in SARS-CoV-2, and regenerative therapies for cholangiopathies.
Scientific Awards
- UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship
- MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship
- NIHR Clinical Lectureship in Hepatology
Lab members include 7 researchers advancing cell therapy and tissue engineering projects. His work is funded by Rosetrees Trust and UKRI.
