Prof. Floris Bikker is a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral Biochemistry at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA). His research focuses on saliva's protective roles in oral health, including diagnostics, dental erosion prevention, biofilm treatment, and xerostomia management. He leads the saliva clinic at ACTA, treating patients with saliva-related disorders. Teaching responsibilities include oral biochemistry and dentistry courses.
Research interests span salivary diagnostics, antimicrobial peptides, material science applications, and innate immunity mechanisms. Collaborations include developing antibacterial nanoparticles and cathelicidin-based therapies. Recent work explores terpene effects on saliva stimulation and titanium surface modifications to inhibit bacterial adherence.
Prof. Bikker has supervised 8 PhD theses and actively participates in academic conferences and editorial activities. His lab focuses on translating biochemical discoveries into clinical solutions for oral health challenges.
