About
Florian Schneider is a filmmaker, artist, writer, and curator currently serving as Professor for Art Theory and Documentary Practices at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art. Since 2014, he has held the position of Head of the Academy. His academic work explores the intersection of image production, biopolitics, and the relationship between selfhood and ownership.
He completed his PhD thesis on "Imaginary Property" at the Centre for Research Architecture, Goldsmiths College, London. Currently, he directs an artistic research project titled "The Charismatic Self and Hybrid Divisions of Labor", funded by the Norwegian Programme for Artistic Research.
His research interests span critical theory, media studies, and surveillance culture, focusing on concepts like the "becoming-property of images" and the "becoming-imaginary of property." These themes interrogate how biopolitical control and technological surveillance reshape selfhood and ownership paradigms.
Florian Schneider collaborates with institutions such as the MIT Comparative Media Studies/Writing (CMS/W) program, engaging with scholars like Sun-Ha Hong and Gediminas Urbonas. His work has been featured in lecture series addressing topics like collective fantasies in technology and communication.
