Florian Pop

Florian Pop is the Samuel D. Schack Professor of Algebra and a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Mathematics, within the School of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on Arithmetic Algebraic Geometry, Modern Galois Theory, and their intersections with Model Theory. He holds a Ph.D. (1987) and Habilitation (1991) from the University of Heidelberg. Notable awards include the Simons Fellowship, Alexander von Humboldt Prize, and Fellow of the AMS. He teaches advanced courses like Algebraic Geometry I/II and has held positions at institutions including the IAS Princeton and University of Bonn. His work emphasizes anabelian geometry, Galois representations, and field arithmetic, with over 50 publications in top journals. Current research explores definability in function fields and applications of model theory to geometry.
