Flora Dunster

Dr Flora Dunster is a Lecturer and Course Leader for MA Contemporary Photography; Practices and Philosophies at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. She also teaches Critical Studies in the BA Fine Art program.

Her research centers on critical histories and theories of photography, with interdisciplinary approaches that examine images as sites of political potential. Key areas include:

• Queer/lesbian photography in 1980s-90s UK
• British photo theory and Welsh photographic traditions
• Utopian/future-oriented photographic theories
• Re-evaluation of Vancouver School conceptualism

She has co-authored the book Photography—A Queer History (2024) and co-edited a special issue of British Art Studies on Queer Art in Britain. Her work bridges academic research and public engagement through presentations at institutions like The Photographers' Gallery and conferences including CAA and AAH.
