Flavia Laviosa

Flavia Laviosa is a Senior Lecturer in Italian Studies at Wellesley College, affiliated with both the Department of French, Francophone, and Italian Studies and the Cinema and Media Studies Program. She specializes in representations of gender violence in global cinema and has made significant editorial contributions to Italian film studies.

Her research focuses on Italian cinema, with particular emphasis on women filmmakers and Mediterranean film cultures. She has published extensively on gender representation in Mediterranean cinema and transnational journeys of Italian women directors.

Laviosa founded the book series Trajectories in Italian Cinema and Media and the Journal of Italian Cinema and Media Studies, and organized international conferences including the 2022 conference on Italian cinema at The American University of Rome.
