Melina Fischer is a Researcher and doctoral candidate at the Department of Sociology and Social Geography, Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, since March 2024. She holds a bachelor's degree in International Relations and Social Sciences from the University of Erfurt and a master's degree in Cultural Anthropology from Utrecht University, supported by a DAAD scholarship. Her research focuses on institutional structures of whiteness within activism-oriented organizations supporting migrants at Europe's borders, employing intersectional and decolonial frameworks.
Her work combines participatory ethnographic fieldwork in Senegal, Sicily, and Austria/Germany with reflexive methodological approaches and feminist theories. She is affiliated with the Migration and Mobilities Lab (MML) and the IMISCOE SC RACED network. Her activist engagement with PushBack Alarm Salzburg significantly influences her research on structural inequalities and institutional change.
