Fischer Ferenc

Fischer Ferenc is a Professor and Director of the Institute of History at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Pecs. He has held leadership roles including Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (2009–2012), Director of the Research Group on Hungary, Europe and Ibero-America (2007–2011), and Head of the Department of Modern History (1995–2001). His academic journey includes visiting professorships at UNAM (Mexico), Universidad Javeriana (Colombia), and the University of Hamburg.

Education: PhD in History (1996, Janus Pannonius University), Doctor Habil (1999, University of Pécs), and Doctor of Sciences (2003, Hungarian Academy of Sciences). Earlier roles include Research Fellow (1983–1987) at the University of Szeged.

Research focuses on historical geopolicy, naval power dynamics between Germany/Spain/Portugal and Latin America (1885–1945), cold war history, and mapping historical processes. His work bridges international relations and spatial analysis.

Awards highlight contributions to Hungarian academia and international relations, including national honors and teaching excellence recognition. He has led doctoral programs, chaired academic committees, and advised on international research networks like CEISAL.
