Fiona Verity

Professor Fiona Verity is a sociologist and social worker holding the position of Professor of Social Work and Social Care at Swansea University’s School of Health and Social Care. She specializes in community development, social policy, and practitioner research, with a focus on preventative social care and aging. Her career spans roles in Australia, including Dean of the School of Social Studies and Policy at Flinders University (2011–2013) and Director of the Wales School for Social Care Research (2016–2020). She currently leads the Developing Evidence Enriched Practice (DEEP) Programme and collaborates with the AWEN Institute to address aging-related challenges through co-created research.

Her research explores legislative impacts on social services, community mental health interventions in low-resource settings, and rural health practices. Key areas include the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 evaluation, Ugandan mental health initiatives, and obesity prevention strategies. She has contributed to over 100 publications, emphasizing policy-practice intersections and equitable service delivery. Supervision focuses on redefining professional boundaries in dementia care.

Professor Verity’s work bridges academic and practical domains, addressing systemic challenges in aging populations, risk management, and technology integration in care.
