Dr Fiona Reid serves as the Associate Dean (FASPs) and Head of the Department of Arts, Humanities and Human Sciences (AHHS) at Newman University. She can be contacted via f.reid@staff.newman.ac.uk. Her administrative roles include chairing the Student Experience group and serving on various academic committees.
Her research specializes in the social and cultural history of war, particularly focusing on the First and Second World Wars. Key themes include war trauma, medical responses to combatants and civilians, and the experiences of displaced populations. Notable works include Medicine in First World War Europe and Broken Men: Shell Shock, Treatment and Recovery in Britain 1914–30.
Dr Reid actively supervises PhD students, currently mentoring one researching gender and the popular press in 1920s Birmingham. She has examined diverse PhD topics across medicine, warfare, and gender studies.
She participates in interdisciplinary collaborations, organizing conferences such as Care after the First World War (Leeds, 2018) and delivering keynote addresses globally.
