Fiona Patrick

Dr Fiona Patrick is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Glasgow, affiliated with the College of Social Sciences. She is a member of the CLIP research group and the University of Glasgow Educational Assessment Network. Her work focuses on pedagogical reasoning in teacher education and assessment within curriculum frameworks, particularly in the context of the Curriculum for Wales. She collaborates with policymakers and educators to co-construct practical understandings of learning progression.

Her research employs qualitative, interpretivist methodologies, emphasizing inductive thematic analysis and narrative synthesis. Key projects include the Camau i’r Dyfodol initiative (2022–2025), funded by the Welsh Government, which explores curriculum reform in Wales through teacher-led collaboration.

Publications highlight her contributions to adaptive pedagogy models, teacher education practices, and global perspectives on STEM education. Her recent work emphasizes practice-focused research and the integration of theory, research, and classroom practice.

Dr Patrick supervises doctoral students in areas such as policy advocacy, teacher identity, and digital inclusion. She has served as an external examiner for Edinburgh Napier University and the University of Strathclyde, and her teaching philosophy aligns with scholars like Lawrence Stenhouse and John Dewey.

Grants include significant contributions to the Literature Review on Teacher Education (Scottish Government, 2010) and the Teacher Working Time Research project (2005–2006), which assessed teacher workloads in Scotland.
