Fiona Gogescu is an LSE Fellow in the Department of Social Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research focuses on educational inequalities, meritocracy perceptions, and social mobility across European countries, with a particular emphasis on post-socialist nations in Central and Eastern Europe.
She holds a PhD from LSE's Department of Social Policy, where her mixed-methods doctoral thesis examined educational stratification processes in Germany and Romania. Prior to her academic career, Fiona worked at NatCen Social Research, gaining policy evaluation experience. She co-founded the Doctoral Research Group on Inequality and Social Mobility, an international network for early-career scholars.
Her teaching includes the SP230 Education Policy course. Research interests span comparative educational systems, elite student perspectives on privilege, and the interplay between policy and social stratification.
