Filippo Menczer is a Luddy Distinguished Professor of Informatics and Computer Science at Indiana University, Bloomington, with courtesy appointments in cognitive science and physics. He serves as Director of the Observatory on Social Media and is a board member of the IU Network Science Institute. Previously, he held leadership roles including division chair in the School of Informatics and Computing and director of the Center for Complex Networks and Systems Research.
Research interests focus on computational social science, misinformation spread, and complex network modeling. Key areas include Web/data science, online manipulation detection, and social media analysis. His lab pioneered tools to counter social media manipulation, garnering international media coverage.
Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on misinformation dynamics, AI ethics, social platform governance, and network-based analysis, with increasing emphasis on LLMs and decentralized networks in 2024-2025 research.
