About
Filip Alamaa is a Research Fellow at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, currently based at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP). He holds a PhD in Physics from KTH (2022) and a Licentiate in Physics (2020). His work focuses on gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), radiation-mediated shocks, and their connection to ultra-high-energy cosmic rays. He develops novel methods like the Kompaneets RMS approximation for modeling GRB prompt emission. Alamaa is also actively involved in teaching, serving as a teaching assistant in Modern Physics and course coordinator for High-Energy Astrophysics.
Research interests span GRB emission mechanisms, relativistic shock dynamics, and multi-messenger astrophysics. His recent work explores intrapulse spectral evolution in photospheric models and the termination phase of GRB prompt emission. He has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings since 2019.
Alamaa organizes high-school project mentorship programs (~40 students annually) and engages in public science communication. His affiliations include KTH's Particle Astrophysics and Medical Imaging department and collaborative projects with IAP in Paris.
