Fernando Rugitsky is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), serving as Programme Leader for the BA(Hons) Economics degree within the Bristol Business School's Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance.
Dr. Rugitsky earned his PhD in Economics from The New School of Social Research (US) in 2014, complemented by an MSc and dual BSc degrees in Economics and Law from Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil). Prior to joining UWE Bristol, he held Lecturer/Senior Lecturer positions at Universidade de São Paulo (2015-2021) and was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge's Centre of Latin American Studies in 2020.
His research integrates political economy, Latin structuralism, and Kaleckian macroeconomics to analyze Latin American development trajectories, inequality patterns, inclusive development prospects, and climate change impacts since the early 2000s. His scholarly contributions span development studies, political economy, and climate policy with regional focus on Latin America.

Dr. Rugitsky leads research initiatives funded by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Horizon (EU), maintaining active collaborations with institutions across Europe, Turkey, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. He participates in the Global South Political Economy network and collaborates with the Center of Critical Imagination at the Brazilian Center of Analysis and Planning.
