Fernando Meza is an Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota School of Music, where he has served as Director of Percussion Studies since 1993. He holds a master's degree from the University of Michigan and a bachelor's degree from Baylor University. His research focuses on percussion literature, orchestral and contemporary music, North Indian tabla, and Costa Rican folkloric marimba traditions.
Prof. Meza has performed internationally with artists like Keiko Abe and ensembles including the Minnesota Orchestra and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He organized the Marimba 2010 International Festival and has recorded for Disney's The Lion King Broadway production and Stephen Paulus' opera The Three Hermits.
He is an educational artist for Zildjian, Grover ProPercussion, and August Percussion, having developed a signature line of marimba mallets. His teaching philosophy emphasizes global musicianship and professional development.
