Prof. Fernando Enns is a Full Professor in the Department of Religious Beliefs and Ethics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He holds ancillary roles as Endowed Chair and Director of the Institute for Peace Church Theology at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and Director of the Amsterdam Center for Religion and Peace & Justice Studies. His expertise spans Peace Theology, Ecumenical Studies, Postcolonial Theology, and Mennonite Ethics. Enns received his PhD in Systematic Theology from Heidelberg University, focusing on the Peace Church and Ecumenical Community.
Research interests include nonviolent ethics, global justice, and decolonizing theological frameworks. He has authored over 80 publications, including books and peer-reviewed articles on peacebuilding, ecumenical theology, and postcolonial studies. Notable works address contemporary challenges such as the Ukraine conflict and reconciliation in global Christian communities.
Enns has received the “Best Sermon of the Year” award (2007). His advisory roles include leadership in the World Council of Churches, Missions Academy, and Mennonite Church Germany. He teaches courses on Anabaptist-Mennonite theology, ecclesiology, and ethical pastoral practices.
