Fenella Billing

Fenella Billing is an Associate Professor in International Law and Human Rights at Aalborg University, with an adjunct researcher position at the University of Tasmania. She specializes in transnational law enforcement, human rights, and maritime law, particularly focusing on legal frameworks for migrant smuggling and human security at sea. Her research bridges international law, EU law, and human rights, addressing issues like state responsibility and due diligence obligations.

Teaching interests include Comparative Law, EU Law, and Fundamental Human Rights. Current projects include the PolSEA initiative on maritime policing and the BlueRights Working Group on protection of life at sea. Fenella contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through work on legal accountability and human rights monitoring.
