Femke Rutters is an Assistant Professor (university lecturer) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Amsterdam and a Principal Investigator at Amsterdam UMC. Since September 2021, she has served as a Principal Educator, focusing on advancing education in lifestyle and preventive medicine. Her work addresses critical gaps in medical curricula regarding chronic disease prevention, obesity, and evidence-based interventions.
Her expertise lies in lifestyle and preventive medicine, driven by the urgent need to integrate these topics into medical training. She aims to develop curriculum components and learning strategies to enhance students' and practitioners' understanding of preventive health measures. As part of the Principal Educator network, she collaborates with peers to share insights and advocate for systemic educational reforms.
Rutters is actively involved in the lifestyle coalition for education working groups, leveraging her role to elevate the profile of preventive medicine within Amsterdam UMC. Her contributions bridge research on public health challenges (e.g., obesity's role in infectious diseases) with practical educational initiatives.
