Felix Otto is a Professor of Mathematics at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences. He was born in Munich in 1966, and studied mathematics at the University of Bonn, where he received his doctorate in 1993. He has held positions at the University of California at Santa Barbara, the University of Bonn, and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences. He is a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, and the German National Academy of Sciences. He is the recipient of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (DFG).
