Prof. Felix Hanschmann is a Visiting Professor of Law at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, leading the Chair “Critique of Law – Foundations and Practice of the Democratic Rule of Law,” funded by the Dieter Hubertus Pawlik Foundation. His academic journey includes studies in law (Frankfurt am Main) and sociology (Darmstadt), a doctorate under Günter Frankenberg (2004), and a habilitation in Public Law, International Law, and Legal Theory (2016).
Research focuses on Legal Theory, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law (School, Police, Assembly Rights), and International Human Rights Law. He held roles at Goethe University Frankfurt, Humboldt University Berlin (2017–2021), and the German Federal Constitutional Court. He is affiliated with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, Sebastian Cobler Foundation, and co-edits the journal Kritische Justiz.
Prior roles include Visiting Research Scholar at Harvard Law School (2004–2005), Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law (2005–2006, 2008–2009), and Academic Council member at Goethe University (2012–2018). He currently tutors for the German National Merit Foundation and serves on multiple academic boards.
