Dr. Felisi Sorgwe is an Associate Professor of Theology and Director of the Center for Exploring Ministry Careers at Houston Christian University (HCU). He holds a PhD in Religion from Baylor University (1991), an MARE in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1982), and dual bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington (1978). His work bridges biblical scholarship, theological education, and ministerial training.
Research interests include Old Testament theology, biblical hermeneutics, and practical ministry applications. He has authored numerous peer reviews and commentaries on biblical texts, focusing on books like Luke, John, and Romans. His teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses in theology, biblical languages (Greek/Hebrew), and supervised ministry practicums.
Award-winning educator, Dr. Sorgwe won HCU’s Opal Goolsby Professor of the Year Award (2018) and was repeatedly listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. His leadership roles include chairing program review committees and directing HCU’s ministry career center. He also serves as faculty sponsor for the African Student Association and Theta Alpha Kappa honor society.
Active in campus life, he frequently speaks at convocation events, organizes theological conferences, and mentors students in ministry. His dual Nigerian-American background enriches his engagement with global Christian perspectives.
