Felipe Valencia Caicedo is the Dean's Assistant Professor of Political Economy and Economics at Brown University, affiliated with the Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. His research focuses on Economic History, Development Economics, and Political Economy, with current work on historical conflict supported by the SSHRC.
He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF, 2015), completed through the European Doctoral Programme in Economics (EDP) with a visit to the London School of Economics (LSE). His dissertation, supervised by Hans-Joachim Voth, earned the Enrique Fuentes Quintana prize for best social sciences thesis in Spain.
He serves as a Research Affiliate at CEPR (Economic History, Political Economy, and Preventing Conflict programs), the Kiel Institute, and IZA. He is on the Editorial Board of the Economic History of Developing Regions, chairs the Scientific Committee of RIDGE, and co-heads LACEA-EHN.
His work bridges historical conflict studies with contemporary development challenges, integrating quantitative methods to analyze long-term institutional and economic outcomes.
