Felipe Szabzon is a Research Fellow (postdoctoral) at the Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies, University of Copenhagen. He holds concurrent positions as Research Associate at the Section of Psychiatric Epidemiology, São Paulo Medical School (University of São Paulo) and Permanent Researcher at the Brazilian Centre for Analysis and Planning (CEBRAP).
Education includes a double PhD in Dynamics of Health and Social Welfare from NOVA University Lisbon and École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, France), an MSc in Public Health from University of São Paulo, and a bachelor's in Clinical Psychology from Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo.
His research examines mental health policy implementation and subjective experiences of adversity, focusing on vulnerable communities in Latin America. Current projects investigate COVID-19 impacts in São Paulo and Bogotá using participatory-action research and ethnography to analyze mental health outcomes amid socioeconomic disparities.
Recent publications (2019-2024) predominantly explore community mental health during COVID-19, employing qualitative methodologies to study health policy, social welfare systems, and community engagement strategies in Brazil and Colombia.
Co-founded the Platform for Social Research in Mental Health in Latin America (PLASMA) and previously contributed to Portugal's National Mental Health Programme.
