About
Dr. Fekade Sime is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at the UQ Centre for Clinical Research and Affiliate Research Fellow in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at The University of Queensland. His research program focuses on optimizing antimicrobial therapy through pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modeling, with particular expertise in outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), antimicrobial stability testing, and combating multidrug-resistant infections.
His research interests span:
- Development and validation of dynamic infection models for antimicrobial optimization
- Pharmacodynamic evaluation of novel antibiotic combinations against resistant pathogens
- Implementation science for OPAT programs globally
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of antimicrobial efficacy and safety
- Therapeutic drug monitoring in critical care populations
Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on antimicrobial stability in infusion devices, systematic evaluations of OPAT outcomes, and innovative PK/PD approaches to combat antimicrobial resistance. His work frequently employs hollow-fiber infection models, multinational surveys, and meta-analytical techniques.
Honors include the prestigious NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellowship supporting his research on optimized antibiotic dosing regimens.
Dr. Sime actively supervises doctoral candidates investigating antimicrobial stability, combination therapies for resistant infections, and OPAT implementation barriers. His research is supported by multiple competitive grants including NHMRC Investigator Grants and industry partnerships focused on translating pharmacokinetic findings into clinical practice.
He leads research initiatives within the UQ Centre for Clinical Research and collaborates internationally on antimicrobial optimization studies, including the SAFE-ICU project evaluating antifungal dosing in critical care.
