Fei Zhang

Fei Zhang, PhD, CRNA, RN, is an Assistant Professor in the Nurse Anesthesia department at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. His research focuses on applying deep learning methods to big data from Anesthesia Information Management Systems, including high-resolution intraoperative data collection, data augmentation via Generative Adversarial Networks, and clinical decision support using Deep Neural Networks. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a CRNA at UPMC since 2015 and as an ICU nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla.

He serves as co-principal investigator on the National Science Foundation-funded project “New Machine Learning Framework to Conduct Anesthesia Risk Stratification and Decision Support for Precision,” contributing anesthesia expertise and advanced statistical methods.

As a clinical preceptor at UPMC Passavant, Dr. Zhang integrates simulation education into nurse anesthesia training, emphasizing practical applications of data science in clinical settings.
