Professor Fay Bound Alberti is a leading historian of modern medicine, emotion, and the body at King’s College London. She holds the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship and directs the Centre for Technology and the Body within the Digital Futures Institute. Her interdisciplinary work spans the history of medicine, emotions, gender, and cultural studies. She has held academic roles at multiple universities, including the University of York, before returning to academia in 2019. Her research focuses on the ethical, cultural, and psychosocial aspects of surgical innovations like face transplantation, and she leads the Interface project exploring the societal implications of facial surgery and digital technologies. Alberti is also a prominent public intellectual, appearing on TED, BBC, and international media to discuss topics like loneliness and medical ethics. She has authored influential books including A Biography of Loneliness (2019) and Matters of the Heart (2010).
