Fatima Mohamed

Dr. Fatima Mohamed serves as Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) within the School of Education and Childhood, a position she has held since 2024. A qualified teacher with extensive experience in inner-city Bristol schools, she previously served as a middle leader and school governor while establishing herself as a locally situated scholar-activist bridging academic research and practical educational contexts.

Her research program critically examines systemic educational inequities through multiple theoretical frameworks:

• Analysis of education policy through Black Radical Tradition
• Interlocking race and class dynamics in educational settings
• Black feminist theoretical applications in African and global contexts
• Spatial segregation and opportunity divides in urban education
• Racial Capitalism as analytical lens for educational disparities

Dr. Mohamed's recent scholarship explores Bristol's educational landscape through the lens of reparative justice, connecting theoretical frameworks with practical solutions for historically marginalized communities. Her MA dissertation research employs small-scale methodology to investigate how spatial segregation shapes educational opportunity across the city.

As an educator, she teaches across Primary Education undergraduate programs and PGCE postgraduate courses. Her academic leadership includes serving as module co-lead for Cross Curricular Learning, supervising undergraduate dissertation students, and providing critical support to Initial Teacher Education (ITE) students during school placements. This tripartite role connects her theoretical expertise with classroom practice and teacher development.
