Fatima Cande

Fatima Cande is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Southampton's Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics. She serves as Programme Lead for the BA Language, Culture, and Communication and coordinates Year Abroad programs for Portuguese-speaking countries. Her academic background includes a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures from the University of Aveiro and a Master's in Portuguese Teaching as a Second and Foreign Language from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Her research focuses on foreign language pedagogy and second language acquisition, with specialization in Portuguese language instruction. She has extensive experience in teacher training programs in Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau, and currently teaches Portuguese at multiple proficiency levels while supervising student dissertations.

Publications demonstrate consistent focus on Lusophone education systems and language teaching methodologies, particularly examining Portuguese language instruction in Guinea-Bissau across educational levels. Recent works analyze teacher training frameworks and literary contributions to cultural identity formation.

As a member of the Centre for Language Study research group, she contributes to curriculum development and assessment practices. Her professional activities include invited presentations on Portuguese language education in Guinea-Bissau at academic events internationally.
