Fanny Romain

Fanny Romain is a Lecturer in theory and practice of landscape projects at Institut Agro Rennes-Angers, where she has been working since 2011. She is affiliated with the Department of Social Sciences and conducts research at UMR CNRS 6590 Spaces and Societies (ESO). Her work bridges landscape architecture, urban planning, and social sciences, focusing on how public spaces are conceived, constructed, and experienced through action research methodologies.

Dr. Romain earned her Doctorate in landscape science and architecture in 2010 from the Research Laboratory of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles/Agroparistech. She is also a qualified landscape architect (DPLG, 2007) from the National School of Landscape of Versailles, with additional training in architectural environment design and modern literature from prestigious French institutions.

Her research examines public space projects, their mechanisms, and what they reveal about society. She approaches this through contributory action research, experimenting with project production through management and construction partnerships. Her work situates landscape approaches in relation to other development fields like architecture and urban planning, analyzing spatial projects through social science tools to link them with political projects.

Analysis of Dr. Romain's publications reveals a consistent focus on river landscapes in Mediterranean cities, public space transformations, and participatory approaches to landscape design.
