About
Fanfei Meng is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, part of the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences. His research focuses on drug delivery systems, nanomedicine, and immunoengineering to combat cancer, autoimmune, and infectious/inflammatory diseases. He received his BS in Pharmaceutical Engineering and MS in Pharmaceutics from China Pharmaceutical University, followed by a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with research at Purdue University. His postdoctoral work at Purdue explored nanomedicine applications in cancer immunotherapy.
- Education:
- BS: Pharmaceutical Engineering, Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
- MS: Pharmaceutics, China Pharmaceutical University
- PhD: Pharmaceutical Sciences, China Pharmaceutical University/Purdue University
Research interests span biomedical engineering, material science, and microbiology, with an emphasis on designing biomacromolecule-delivery systems to modulate immune functions. His lab develops drug carriers for cancer immunotherapy, including paclitaxel/nucleic acid combinations and siRNA delivery via noncationic nanocapsules. Recent work includes thermally stable mRNA-LNP systems and antitumor therapies like the IMAX complex.
Publications highlight innovations in nanoparticle engineering, including camouflaged nanocarriers and quantitative biodistribution analysis. He is a member of the UMass Cancer Center and collaborates on projects such as in vitro tissue models for macromolecular transport assessment.
Advising includes mentoring graduate students like Urmila, Quan, and Giang, while lab milestones include opening the Meng Lab in 2023. Current projects focus on expanding cancer immunotherapy strategies and exploring nanomedicine for sepsis treatment.
Labs/Teams: The Meng Lab specializes in drug delivery, nanomedicine, and immunoengineering, emphasizing translational research with clinical relevance.
