Fan Zhang

Dr. Fan Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the School of Construction and Design at the University of Southern Mississippi. She holds a Ph.D. in Construction Engineering Management from Oregon State University (2016) and an M.S. in Construction Management from the University of Kansas (2008). Her research focuses on highway work zone safety, safety training methodologies, and pedagogical innovations in construction education. She also explores infrastructure accessibility and sustainable recycling practices in construction projects.

Dr. Zhang teaches courses such as Construction Planning and Scheduling, Construction Project Management, and Surveying, emphasizing practical skills for industry readiness. Her work bridges academic research and real-world applications, particularly in mitigating risks associated with construction work zones and enhancing workforce development through K-12 outreach programs.

Professional affiliations include the American Society of Civil Engineering and Sigma Lambda Chi. She is fluent in Chinese and English. Her recent research highlights include studies on heat-related illness prevention in construction, technology-driven work zone safety improvements, and market accessibility analysis of inland waterway systems.
