About
Prof. Dr. Fan Liu is the Head of the Mass Spectrometry Core Facility and leads the Fan Liu (SI) Group at the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP), within the Structural Biology research section. She oversees a state-of-the-art proteomics platform supporting advanced protein characterization for internal and external collaborators.
Her research focuses on proteomics and structural biology, particularly utilizing cutting-edge mass spectrometry for protein identification, quantification, post-translational modification analysis (including novel methods for pyrophosphorylation), and protein interaction studies via cross-linking MS. Her group is actively developing new methodologies in close collaboration with academic partners like Prof. Dorothea Fiedler and Prof. Christian Hackenberger, as well as industry (Thermo Fisher Scientific).
Recent publications reveal her significant contributions to neurobiological research, where her mass spectrometry expertise supports discoveries on presynaptic long-term plasticity and memory formation in Drosophila. Her work has helped elucidate how the antagonism between Spinophilin and Syd-1 regulates synaptic function through F-actin dynamics.
- Scientific Awards: No awards are mentioned in the provided text.
Prof. Liu leads a collaborative team and provides essential core facility services, including sample submission, method development, and data analysis. Her leadership ensures the delivery of reliable and reproducible proteomic data, advancing research across molecular pharmacology and structural biology.
