About
Fabiola Creed is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Warwick’s Centre for the History of Medicine, funded by the Wellcome Trust. Her current project, ‘The Last Taboo of Motherhood?: Postnatal Mental Disorders in Twentieth-Century Britain’, examines how mothers and partners narrated their experiences of postnatal mental illness, analyzing letters, memoirs, media, and oral histories. Previously, she held fellowships at institutions including the University of Strathclyde, Manchester, and Shanghai (Medical Humanities China-UK program), and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST). Her research spans medical history, gender studies, and public health, focusing on topics like tanning culture and media representations of mental health.
Creed holds a PhD in Medical Humanities (University of Warwick, 2020) and an MA in History of Medicine (Warwick, 2016), alongside a BA in History and Music from the University of Liverpool (2014). Her first monograph, The Rise and Fall of the Sunbed in Britain (2025), explores the cultural and health impacts of sunbeds. She has authored articles in journals such as Social History of Medicine and Women’s History Review, as well as policy reports on improving maternity care and witness testimony practices.
Her work bridges academic research and public engagement, with a focus on historical narratives that inform modern health policy and cultural understanding. She has collaborated with organizations like POST to translate academic findings into actionable policy recommendations.
