His research focuses on event detection and analysis in large-scale databases, applied to multimedia, semantic analysis, and security. This spans video surveillance systems, social network analysis, and probabilistic itinerary planning. He co-developed ISEQL (Interval-based Surveillance Event Query Language) with advanced temporal operators and efficient algorithms for interval joins, extending its use to social networks and PostgreSQL integration. Notable collaborations include work with Prof. Sven Helmer and Dr. Paolo Bolzoni.
Recent research trends include robotic platforms for dynamic surveillance (SARRI robot), multi-camera configurations, and social sensing for tourist applications. He has secured over €45,000 in research funding and published in top venues like IEEE TKDE, VLDBJ, IJCAI, and IEEE ICSC.
