About
Dr. Fabio Cortesi is an ARC Future Fellow leading the Sensory Neuroscience Lab at the University of Queensland. His research examines visual system evolution in marine organisms, particularly how fish and cephalopods perceive color and how this drives biodiversity. His lab combines single-cell sequencing, transgenic techniques, and behavioral experiments to study visual adaptations.
Key research areas:
- Evolution of vertebrate visual systems
- Coral reef fish sensory ecology
- Ontogenetic changes in vision
- Neural basis of color perception
- Deep-sea visual adaptations
Recent publications demonstrate innovative use of CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing in anemonefish and investigations into UV vision development. Fieldwork spans Australia's Great Barrier Reef and international collaborations on deep-sea vision.
