About
Fabio Capitanio is an Associate Professor in the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment at Monash University, where he holds an ARC Future Fellowship. His research focuses on Earth's dynamics, including seismicity, climate interactions, mountain building, and global plate motions, leveraging numerical modeling, high-performance computing, and deep learning. He actively supervises PhD students in topics ranging from early Earth formation to modern tectonic processes.
Research Interests:
- Geodynamics and Tectonics
- Early Earth evolution
- Subduction zone dynamics
- Climate-geosphere interactions
- Numerical modeling techniques
Scientific Awards:
- ARC Future Fellow (current)
Grants & Projects:
- Leading the ARC-funded project on India-Asia tectonics-climate interactions (2022–2025)
- Principal Investigator for the Underworld computational geodynamics initiative (2017–2025)
