Fabian Dirscherl

Fabian Dirscherl is a Research Associate, Program Manager, and Academic Advisor at the Institute of Linguistics, Department of Linguistics/German Studies (ILG), University of Stuttgart, within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a central role in academic advising, course management, and international cooperation, particularly with Vasyl Stefanyk National University of Podkarpackie, Ukraine, under DAAD-funded initiatives. He is also the ERASMUS Coordinator and serves on multiple university committees, including examination, admissions, and diversity commissions.

His research focuses on linguistic pragmatics, especially speech and thought representation, experienced speech, quotation, and group-related insults in quotational contexts. He explores verbal aggression, hate speech, and the pragmatics of deception (lying, bullshitting), often from interdisciplinary perspectives linking linguistics, philosophy, and social issues. His teaching portfolio includes core courses such as Pragmatics I/II, Semantic Analysis, and Grammatical Analysis, as well as innovative interdisciplinary seminars on humor, metaphors, ancient curses, and film.

His recent publications analyze quotation and mixed speech in narrative structures, reflecting a sustained interest in how language represents internal and external discourse. His scholarly output trends toward the intersection of formal linguistic analysis and sociopolitical discourse, particularly concerning discrimination and academic integrity.

He actively supervises bachelor’s theses on topics like hate speech, taboo language, and AI metaphors. He is also a staff representative and safety officer, demonstrating deep engagement in institutional and student welfare.
