FU Chengyu

FU Chengyu serves as Professor of Management Practice of Governance and Innovations at Large Corporations at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB), leveraging over 40 years of executive leadership in the global energy sector. Former Chairman and CEO of CNOOC (2003-2011) and Chairman of SINOPEC (2011-2015), he also held significant government roles including membership in the 17th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the 12th Standing Committee of China's People's Political Consultative Conference. His current advisory positions span the University of Southern California Board of Trustees, Columbia University's Center for Global Energy Policy, and Peking University's School of International Strategy.

Academic credentials include a geology degree from China's Northeast Petroleum Institute and a petroleum engineering master's from the University of Southern California. His career began in Chinese oilfields before transitioning to international joint ventures with Phillips, Amoco, and ACT Group, where he became one of the first Chinese executives appointed by a foreign company in China (1995).

Research focuses intensely on leadership dynamics within state-owned enterprises, globalization strategies for energy corporations, and innovation frameworks for large-scale organizations. His work bridges theoretical management principles with practical applications in oil and gas exploration, risk mitigation, and energy security policy.
