FRANCESCO COMPAGNA

Francesco Compagno is a Lecturer in Criminal Law and Procedure at Sapienza University of Rome, where he has served for nearly two decades. He also teaches at LUISS University, the Polytechnic University of Milan, and the Medichini Training Center. His research focuses on corporate criminal liability, compliance programs, and legal entity accountability under Legislative Decree 231/2001. He holds a PhD in Criminal Law and Procedure from Sapienza and has collaborated on EU-funded projects, including one on corporate liability with leading European universities. Additionally, he practices law specializing in corporate criminal defense, representing clients in high-profile cases involving environmental disasters, workplace accidents, and financial crimes. Compagno chairs supervisory bodies for compliance programs and has authored over 20 scholarly works on criminal law, corporate liability, and human rights.

Education: Graduated with honors in Law (Sapienza, 2000), postgraduate diploma from the Enrico Ferri School, and a PhD in Criminal Law (Sapienza). Professional Affiliations: Member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Criminal Law (AIDP) since 2009, treasurer of its Italian Group (2014–present), and member of the Rome Bar Association since 2003.

Research interests emphasize corporate crimes, compliance frameworks, and legal accountability of entities. His consultancy work includes drafting organizational models for Italian companies, particularly listed entities. He has contributed to international research initiatives and authored seminal texts on topics like savings market protection and corporate liability in EU member states.
