Everett Waters

Dr. Everett Waters is Professor of Social and Health Psychology at Stony Brook University. His work spans attachment relationships from infancy to adulthood, using observational methods to study secure base behavior and mental representations. As co-founder of the New York Attachment Consortium, he facilitates collaborative research in the Bowlby-Ainsworth tradition.

Current longitudinal projects examine parent-child and marital relationships over 10-20 years, integrating psychophysiological measures and ecological momentary assessment. Research focuses on attachment working models, intergenerational transmission of relationship patterns, and clinical applications of attachment theory.

Publications emphasize measurement innovation in attachment research. Recent work advances script-based assessment methodologies for secure base representations.

Funding includes a $15,000 Center for Mental Health Promotion grant supporting the NY Attachment Consortium's mentorship and conference programs.
