Evan R. Davis is the Elliott Professor of English at Hampden-Sydney College. He holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University (1999) and a B.A. from Williams College (1989). His research focuses on satire, book history, and Anglo-American literary traditions.

His recent work spans topics in 18th-century British satire, digital pedagogy, and postcolonial narratives. Publications include co-editing The Broadview Anthology of Eighteenth-Century British Satire (2023) and analyzing Swift’s political commentary in the context of the 1707 Act of Union.
Scientific awards include the John Peter Mettauer Award for Excellence in Faculty Research (2022), Fulbright Instructorship (2023-24), and multiple NEH and Huntington Library fellowships. He also received the Cabell Award for Excellence in Teaching (2011) and Bortz Award for Teaching with Technology (2004).
As an educator, Davis explores intersections between traditional literary analysis and modern technological tools, evidenced by his leadership in the Rhetoric Program and Fulbright teaching roles in Japan. His service includes chairing the Promotion and Tenure Committee (2020-21) and serving as Assistant Dean of the Faculty (2016-19).
