Evan Montgomery

Evan Montgomery serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Georgetown University's Center for Security Studies (CSS) and holds dual roles as Senior Fellow and Director of Research and Studies at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA). His work focuses on great power competition, East Asia security dynamics, nuclear strategy, and U.S. defense policy.

Dr. Montgomery earned his B.A. from Villanova University and M.A./Ph.D. in political science from the University of Virginia. His academic career includes a 2016-2017 stint as Special Advisor to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, focusing on defense innovation and nuclear modernization.

His research emphasizes geopolitical challenges posed by China's rise, alliance management in Indo-Pacific regions, and modern deterrence frameworks. Recent publications include major CSBA reports on U.S. defense strategy and nuclear deterrence in the second nuclear age.
