Eva McClure

Eva McClure is a Researcher at James Cook University, affiliated with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. Her work focuses on coral reef ecosystems, marine reserves' effectiveness, and climate change impacts on fisheries. She holds a Bachelor of Marine Studies (Honours) from the University of Queensland and a Master of Marine and Antarctic Science from the University of Tasmania. Currently pursuing a PhD under Prof. Garry Russ, her research examines how anthropogenic and environmental factors influence marine reserve performance in the Philippines.

Eva's research interests span coral reef ecology, fisheries management, and the socio-ecological dynamics of coastal communities. She has conducted fieldwork across diverse regions, including the Arctic, French Polynesia, and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Notable contributions include studies on the vulnerability of fisheries to climate change and the role of mangrove recovery in global conservation frameworks.

Her work has been featured in media releases such as The double burden of climate change (2022), highlighting fisheries' disproportionate risks to vulnerable populations, and DNA reveals the past and future of coral reefs (2022), exploring historical climate adaptations. Eva actively participates in the Coral Sea Marine Park surveys and collaborates with international teams on marine biodiversity and ecosystem resilience.
